The stylish hotel, the simple-minded hotel butler Bouton and his fondness for alcoholic drinks, Kamil and his inability to pronounce consonants, Carlos and his irrepressible Spanish temperament, the director of the insurance company and an almost perfect husband Mr. Champsboisy, the guests who do not know each other and above all the flea in the ear of Mrs. Marcela, which forces her to test her husband's fidelity in practice. These are the basic ingredients from which a skilful ensemble of actors, led by a sensitive director, can make a true French delicacy worthy of a Michelin restaurant.
Perhaps the most famous farce in the history of theatre, one of the most performed French comedies of all time, and the most popular double role ever written, A Flea in Her Ear is all this and more from the pen of comedy legend Georges Feydeau.
It is surprising that this comedy classic has only been performed once on the stage of the Moravian Theatre, in 1997. Lída Engelová directed the Olomouc version of A Flea in Her Ear with Dušan Urban playing the double role of Bouton and Victor-Emmanuel. It lasted only one season, but the director Janka Ryšánek Schmiedtová has completely different ambitions for her new production of A Flea in Her Ear. She would like to give the Olomouc audience an honest "door" comedy that will be seen for many years and will find its audience across generations. After The Year in the Village and The House of Bernarda Alba, this versatile director will once again take to the field of theatrical entertainment to fulfil her long-held dream as a director and breathe life into classic French tabloid comedy.
