About Play

An irrepressible desire for freedom, humbleness in the face of the cosmic passage of time and deep empathy for the souls of animals and humans make this work an ideal setting for personal artistic expression. This will undoubtedly be exploited by the director Miroslav Krobot, who first collaborated with our drama company in 2021, when he staged Körner's End of The Solitude of The Berhof Farm, for which we received the Olomouc Region Award for Outstanding Cultural Achievement of the year.

This now classic literary work was based on the true story of the fox Bystronožka, who is said to have really lived in a grove in the village of Veselí in the Šumperk region. The painter Stanislav Lolek heard the story of their stunts from the gamekeeper, whose drawings inspired Rudolf Těsnohlídek to write a story about a sly fox. Due to a printing error, the story was renamed Bystrouška in Lidové noviny, where the story was published, and remained so. Lolek's illustrations also accompanied Těsnohlídek's book published in 1920 and thus became an integral part of the literary life of the fox Bystrouška, which describes in an irresistible and peculiar way the stories of quirky characters of forest and human "vermin". The newspaper stories also caught the attention of Leoš Janáček, for whom they became the libretto for the 1924 opera The Cunning Little Vixen, thanks to which this cunning little beast is known to audiences all over the world.

The fates of the human and animal heroes, such as Bartoš, Rechtor, Harašta, Zlatohřívek, Badger, Woodpecker and Mosquito, intertwine and influence each other, emphasising the need for a harmonious relationship between man and nature. Miroslav Krobot works with his own dramatisation of Těsnohlídek's story, which he created together with his long-term creative partner Lubomír Smékal. Martin Hůla's music will also be an important part of the production, presenting the Vixen B. as a sort of sequence of interconnected music clips.
