La Bayadère (The Temple Dancer)

Oriental jewel about unhappy love of temple dancer Nikiya and warrior Solor

One of the most beautiful pieces of world ballet literature, set in distant and exotic India. This is a story of unhappy love, mental ambivalence and jealousy: Solor, a warrior, loves the temple dancer called Nikiya. However, he is forced by Raja to marry his beautiful and wealthy daughter, Gamzatti. Moreover, a jealous High Brahmin is secretly in love with Nikiya. Raja and Gamazatti reveal the relationship of Solor and Nikiya, and insidiously deprive her of her life by hiding a poisonous snake into her flower basket. Desperate Solor tries to escape into narcotic dreams and in the most famous scene, The Kingdom of Shades, he meets his beloved Nikiya again. The ballet La Bayadère is a challenge for every experienced ballet company. It gives the opportunity to both the company and soloists, to excel in technical and acting skills. A spectacular stage and luxurious costumes promise an extraordinary experience to our audience, which we believe will be the climax of the whole season. La Bayadère is played on the most famous stages around the world. It has been introduced only twice in the Czech Republic: in the National Theatre in Brno and in Prague. The performance of this exceptional ballet jewel will be accompanied by the orchestra of Moravian Theatre, rehearsed by conductor Tomáš Hanák.
